Most colleagues who enter the pharmaceutical industry in this region often come from medical or pharmacy backgrounds, where formal training in people management and the hiring process is notably scarce.
In Medical Affairs, people management requires a specefic approach—one size certainly does not fit all.

The real challenge emerges when individuals find themselves in managerial positions within the pharmaceutical sector without any prior formal education in managing teams, conducting professional and ethical interviews, or understanding the strategic aspects of talent acquisition.
This significant gap in essential managerial skills has been a recurring theme in my discussions with various HR professionals. Despite the urgency, time constraints and the generic nature of available resources have consistently hindered the development of specialized training tailored to the unique needs of Medical Affairs management teams.
Many managers in this field have had to rely on observation and emulation of their peers as their primary means of learning, rather than through structured educational programs.
